Kandersteg village itself is pretty, petite and tranquil but most of all it has everything you would wish from a refreshing Alpine holiday whether it's Winter or Summer. It is one of the best places in Switzerland to learn how to ski and snow-board, with ample scope for progress to more advanced levels. There are plentiful toboggan runs for some real exhilaration. Cross-country ski-ing is very popular too.
The surrounding area is very scenic for the explorer in Summer, with numerous walks and points of interest. From a gondola, you can reach Oeschinensee, a small mountain lake surrounded by majestic crags. It is a popular and lovely spot for picnics with facilities for rowing and fishing. Walking south of Kandersteg village, there is an excellent trail that takes you from Sunnbuel to the famous Gemmi Pass with the attractive Schwarenbach Hotel en route.
At the end of road at the foot of the Alps is the Gasterntal, noted for its breathtaking views and unspoilt beauty.
Kandersteg is a really friendly and relaxing place indeed, even when there is so much to see and do!
